Spiritan Province Celebrates 50 Years of Mission in East Africa
The Spiritan Province marked a significant milestone this month as we celebrated 50 years of dedicated mission work in East Africa. The jubilee celebrations brought together Spiritans, partners in mission, and community members from across the region.
Since our arrival in 1973, the Spiritans have established schools, healthcare facilities, and community development programs that have touched thousands of lives. Our mission has always been guided by the vision of our founder, Claude Poullart des Places, to serve the most marginalized and to educate those who would otherwise be left behind.
The celebration included a special Mass presided by the Provincial Superior, Fr. Thomas O'Malley, who reflected on the journey: "Fifty years ago, a small group of Spiritans arrived with little more than faith and determination. Today, we see the fruits of that faith in the vibrant communities we serve and the local vocations that continue our mission."
Throughout the week-long celebration, various events highlighted the impact of Spiritan ministries. Educational institutions showcased student achievements, healthcare centers offered free medical camps, and community development projects demonstrated sustainable approaches to local challenges.

Looking ahead, the Spiritan Province has announced new initiatives focused on youth leadership development, environmental stewardship, and digital literacy programs. These efforts aim to address contemporary challenges while staying true to our founding charism.
The celebration concluded with a commitment to continue serving with renewed vigor and to expand our mission to reach even more communities in need across East Africa.
